Audience Metrics
Audience calculates a robust set of viewership metrics using a base set of several key metrics. These key metrics, along variations such as Binge Score, Average Binge Score, Average Affiliate Binge Score, appear in the application dashboards and widgets.
With standard Conviva sensor integration, SSAI ads are included in content related metrics (such as Total Minutes), while CSAI ads are not included in the content metrics. Please reach out to Conviva Support or your Conviva representative to clarify metrics for non-standard integrations.
Ads that are not associated with any content sessions (non-content ad sessions) may also be included as long as no related content filters are applied.
Note: Because Audience determines metric values based on sessions ending at each day boundary, metric values, such as app count and total minutes, may show different values than the Experience Insight metrics, which are based on sessions that may cross day boundaries.
Session time includes pauses, which are not counted as interruptions. During pauses, session heartbeats are received and maintain the session time. Compare Playing Time and Session Time metrics to determine the amount of pause time during a session.
| Metric | Definition |
|---|---|
| Ad Frequency | Ad impressions per viewer in the selected interval. |
| Ad Impressions | The sum of ad sessions that successfully started in the selected interval. To avoid over-counting repeated ad plays, ad impressions are deduplicated based on ad ID, ad session ID, client ID and session date. |
| Ad Load |
The percentage of Total Minutes during which ads played. Total Minutes is the content playing time plus the ad minutes. |
| Ad Minutes | The number of minutes ads played in the selected interval. |
| App Count |
The count of unique client IDs (this is automatically assigned by the sensor and will change when the app is reinstalled). |
| Average Minute Audience (AMA) |
The average number of apps playing content during any 60-second interval.
|
| Avg % Complete | The amount of viewed content compared with the total length of the content, aggregated across the selected dimensions. For example, 35.8 indicates 35.8% of the content was watched in a single session. |
| Binge Score | This metric is the probability that a viewer watching a given show will watch another show in the same sitting that is part of the same series. A sitting is defined as an aggregate of all content played by a viewer in succession with no more than 60 minutes (configurable) break between each content played. For more information, see Sitting. |
| Completed Viewers | This metric shows the percentage of viewers that viewed 95% or more of the selected content. |
| Daily Average Frequency |
The average number of ad impressions seen by a viewer per day, calculated as the count of total ad impressions for a viewer in the selected interval, divided by the number of days when a viewer watched videos in the interval. |
| Households | The count of unique household IDs (requires Audience Module add-on). |
| Mins Per Viewer | This metric is calculated by dividing the number of minutes watched by the number of unique viewers. When a time range longer than a day is selected, the Play metric displayed is automatically averaged for the purposes of normalization. |
| Session Duration (Minutes) | The number of minutes watched in an uninterrupted single session. |
| Session Duration (Seconds) | The number of seconds watched in an uninterrupted single session. |
| Subscribers | The count of unique subscriber IDs (requires customer to pass in an appropriate subscriber ID). |
| Total Minutes | The total number of minutes of streaming. |
| Plays |
The number of streams viewed with at least one watched video frame. Audience uses mutable asset meta data so each asset transition / program boundary within a session also counts as a separate play. For example, when a viewer continuously watches two episodes, Audience counts the viewing as two separate plays within the same viewing session. As a result, Audience may display a higher number of plays with the same total minutes when compared to Conviva VSI metrics. Note: You can remove accidental or non-engaged streams, for example plays with <5 minutes of play time, by using the Mins Watched filter option. |
| Residential Devices |
The deduplicated count of unique devices used in the current data. A unique device is a physical device identified as associated with a household and device metadata, such as device marketing name, timespan, and device hardware type. |
| Unique Viewers | Viewers is a measure of unique viewer entities as seen by Conviva. For accounts that pass viewerIDs or DMP IDs, this metric represents the unique number of individual viewer accounts. If these IDs are not available, the Conviva client ID is used to identify unique viewers. Conviva's device ID uniquely identifies an instance of an APP as long as it is not uninstalled and re-installed. For browser-based sessions, cookies are used to identify device IDs. When a time range longer than a day is selected the play metric displayed is automatically averaged for the purposes of normalization. |
