User Roles

This feature is only available to Pulse Admins. If you're not an Admin, this is not the page you're looking for.

User roles are a handy way to manage permissions for groups of users. Roles allow you to define a set of permissions once and reuse that set for all users who meet the same criteria.

Pulse offers you two main default roles: Admin (that's you) and Staff (that's everyone else). Admins are omnipotent; staff are basically observers.  For more details about roles, see Access Levels and User Roles.

Adding Roles

When you create a role, you give the name a role and description, select the data the user can see, and set default dashboards and filters. You also decide what items the users who have this role can create.

To add a role:

  1. Choose User Roles from the Settings menu and click New User Role.
  2. Enter a name and description for the role.
  3. Choose data sets and filters the role.
  4. Select the default dashboard that users will see when they log in to Pulse. Select the default filter that will be applied to each dashboard.
Users can navigate to other dashboards and choose other filters. You're just getting them started here.
  5. Choose access to features, including creating alerts, filters, and custom dashboards; and viewing alerts.
  6. Click Save
